Guinness was my first introduction to good beer. I have a handful of friends who say they like beer, but they only drink the mass-produced American lagers like Budweiser--which, if you've never heard of it, you're not missing anything. I love good beer and good wine. Most of my favorite beers are porters, but I also enjoy a good ale.

Thank you for getting in touch Puglover. We must be of a similar breeding! I was in the Lake District trying out as many of their local ales as I could manage in a short space of time. What a great variety. I enjoy portairs and ales because of the strong tastes coming through them. We have a great many lagers over here too, though I don't enjoy them as much - the truth be knowing, I don't enjoy them at all. My friends enjoy lagers, I think...? They guzzle them back more than savour the taste. Puglover, it can be very difficult to get GOOD wine in Ireland. On the outside, the bottle resembles good wine and the price certainly reflects it, but the taste... shocking. I love French wines. French red, German white and the Spanish, hmmm.... I can't actually remember the name. The wine was yellowish/orange in colour. The word began with an 'S'. It was a half bottle and very expensive. Any ideas?

Not sure about the wine you're describing, as I'm much more into reds and that sounds like a white or blush. I have been exploring French and Spanish reds lately, too. My favorites are always blends.
