Before I had other reading things that I needed for exams I read about 150 pages of it, and really enjoyed it. I'm hoping to get back to reading it when they're over...
I also bought A People's History of the World by Chris Harman to read.
This is really such a well written novel. It does a great job at revealing the hypocracies of the United States history, as well as revealing the exculpatory facts that they indoctrinate my fellow classmates with. But really, it is a just a book of the US history beginning during the exploration (1492) to present. The reason this book is different is because of the sources it uses, like accounts from people during the era (Columbus' diary, etc). After these sources are presented, Zinn correlates and makes modern-day connections that are really just fantastic. It is written by Howard Zinn and I highly recommend it, especially if you're in high school like me. Any other fans?

I have to disagree, it's a decent read but you have to take most of it with a pinch of salt because it's incredibly biased towards one perspective. Undoubtedly it's quite refreshing to read as an anecdote to some of the equally biased histories on the opposite side of the political spectrum and I agree with certain points, but personally I prefer something a little more objective.

Incidentally, after reading this thread I decided to sell my copy on ebay, so if anyone wants to give it a go it's here -

I've already said some bad things about it so I guess it would be hypocritical of me to recommend it now, but ahem, isn't it always best to read things yourself and form your own opinion? Sorry if there's a rule against putting links to ebay auctions, I'll delete it if that's a problem.
Sounds interesting - I might check it out. I'm always interested in any theory ( alternative or otherwise)about what really happened to the early settlers at Roanoke, as long as it doesn't sound too crazy. One theory I'm particularly interested in is that the entire mission was sabotaged even before they left England, due to conflict between Sir Walter Raleigh and Francis Walsingham.
Hope this is not off-topic. I'd still like to see what the book is about.
