Have any of you read this book? I'll post more later, just have five minutes now but am anxious to start discussing it with whoever has an opinion.
I've read this book called The Latehomecomer by Kao Kalia Yang last year and since then have become completely fascinated by the heartbreaking stories of the Hmong. Yang is definitely one of the best new, young authors of today and is definitely one you should look out for. I loved her...
Elissa Stein and Susan Kim. Found out it about while browsing one of the local Book store in my area (last fri). Wasn't that crazy about it in the beginning, but in the end I was crazy about. Heres my review of this it. Have to say its well worth the purchase and was worth the read....
Ethan Watters It was quite interesting read because it not only depression, but covers others as well. In different countries as well and mostly Asian countries. At the same time I wish the book cover more then what it covered. Guess thats for another book in the future.
They do have a companion website and blog besides their books. As for me I have used it time and time again and to me its timeless resource. Even though they do updates of course.
I read this quite a while ago, and didn't like it. I only read it because I didn't have much else to read then; I was waiting for my books to arrive. The story is good. It's interesting, but I'd say you don't learn much more about the story after reading the book. You can read a short one-page...
The Nurture Assumption by Judith Rich Harris, has anyone read it? I am interested in the rols parents play in a child's development, and apparently there's a trend of overparenting out there. I read writers, like Sylvia Plath and her Electra Complex, and wonder how? I mean, in my life, it was...
I was viewing bestsellers on Amazon, and found this work, The Comming Insurrection (http://www.amazon.com/Coming-Insurrection-Semiotext-Intervention/dp/1584350806/ref=pd_ts_b_7?ie=UTF8&s=books) and thought of 19th century France, Kay Nolte Smiths wonderful book, historical fiction of that time, A...
I just found out about a recent publication of Andrew Bernsteins, Capitalism Unbound: The Incontestable Moral Case for Individual Rights. Has anyone read it, anyone going to read it, anything in regards to it, post here please. Here it is on his website: http://www.andrewbernstein.net/ ...
I am currently reading Love and Sex with Robots by David Levy. I have never been interested in robots, until now. These would make incredible artificial human companions. Let me quote some from the book here. This topic I started can be more about robots, fembots, androids, A.I. (artificial...
Anyone read this, The Age of Spiritual Machines: When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence written by Ray Kurzweil, sounds perfect for me in my growing interst in AI, (like in this initial topic of mine http://www.literaturejunction.com/non-fiction/22394-l-s-robots.html, et al) and it's available...
Has anyone heard of or read the book The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman? It was familiar to me, but I actually had no clue what it was about until I heard a very compelling description of it last night. It is about a Laotian community in southern california and the way...

I have recently completed a subject at uni about the recording of traumatic events, witnessing or testimony. I found the section on Holocaust accounts particularly interesting. I was wondering if anyone else has read some of them, and whether they would like to discuss?
In the next few weeks, I'm going to invest in some sort of CD set to help me improve my French accent. I was just curious if people have tried different self-teaching materials (books, cds, etc) to help learn a foreign language and what their experiences were like with different programs. I...
Last night I began this work, and I recognized myself in it, way more than any other work that I have presently read thus far in psychology, Introvert Power: Why Your Inner Life Is Your Hidden Strength by Laurie Helgoe Ph.D. I certainly have narcissistic traits, but I think that all pervasively I...
I was just curious if anyone had any favorite books of photographs? You know, like coffee tables books. Although some have really excellent and/or interesting photos. My mom has a bunch of books that I was looking at in her place, and this one was just so cool, I had to start a thread :) ...

I love reading a good memoir. I'm going to give a few suggestions of ones I have enjoyed, and I welcome recommendations from others. Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt is one of my all-time favorite books. McCourt writes about his Irish-Catholic, poverty-stricken existence in Limerick, Ireland. ...
Thirty years of treason is a book people should read because it offers fantastic insight into how creative writers suffered under the American witch hunts. The book is a collection of actual transcripts of the hearings that The Committee for un-American activities held. Eric Bentley born in Bolton...
