  1. Sticky Thread Sticky: What was your favourite book or author as a kid

My favourite series was LM Montgomery's Anne series and my favourite individual book was The Lost Prince.

  1. Poetry

Can anyone recommend a book that will introduce a child of age 9 to poetry? I do not mean a book "about" or "how to" but simply a book of poems that might attract a child who already enjoys reading very much. Thank you. hmarie

  2. Classic Children's stories and how they impact children.

I have been thinking a little the last while about what the best loved story books are saying to today's children, and how that impacts their lives and deciisions, if indeed it does at all. For instance, Cinderella. I can see how in a more Victorian setting it would be the most natural thing to...

  3. Alice in Wonderland

I'm just about finished with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Curious what you guys thought of it if you've read it. Does anyone else feel this story is almost exhausting in it's oddity? I'm two chapters away from starting Through the Looking Glass, but I think I'm going to have to put it away for...

  4. Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH

Any other fans of this book in the forum? I didn't read this book until last year, but I'd always been a fan of the animated movie when I was a little girl. However, once I read the book I fell in love with the story. I really enjoyed it and found it amazing that I could still be so enthralled...

  5. The Chronicles of Narnia (C.S. Lewis)

I guess they probably seem quite 'dated' now, but they depict a very complete world, with a strong Christian, good-and-evil, thread (not that I noticed when I was younger!). I particularly enjoyed the Voyage of the Dawn Treader- Reepicheep did have a way of stealing scenes :D

  6. Robert Munsch

I don't think I spelled his name correctly, sorry sir. But I am tired, itchy, cranky and hungry at the moment. And those are my good feelings. :) I confess I don't like a lot of his stuff, but some of it is so inventive, so outrageous and funny, or sad that when I do take to one of them , the...

Here is an op-ed piece from the New York Times that includes a list of what Kristof has decided are "The best kids' books ever." Do you agree? What would you include instead? 10. Lightbulb The Wind in the Willows - Kenneth Grahame

I haven't read or seen this one, But I have heard its quite amusing! I have read a little of it, here is a glance on the major theme: The major theme of the story is the struggle between the noisy, common way of life and the quiet and genteel. The Wild Wooders, including the stoats and the...

  11. Picture Books

Now, I know there's already a popular and interesting thread for favourite books as a kid, but I thought I'd see what everyone thinks about picture books, specifically. 12. F.H.Burnett

  20. Illustrators

Illustrators in children books I think are important for the very young, since they reside on a perceptual level of awareness, and good visuals, good art, that can appeal to the very young, is what I'm looking for, making a list of them. Illustrations can often complement books add a new dimension...
