And welcome to 2009 Book Club read :) This (next) year we have decided to read War And Peace by Leo Tolstoy. War And Peace by Leo Tolstoy. So, if at any point during January 1st-December 31st of 2009 you will feel like reading something big and impressive, be sure to pick up this huge...
Welcome to the Book Club! All book discussions are open to everyone. Only members with 50 or more posts may nominate a book. If there are not at least 3 books nominated, I will suggest the remaining book or books for nomination. While everyone may particate in the book...
Who's up for the September book club? Spring is just around the corner here but well, that will have nothing to do with most members. So any suggestions for a spring/autumn read? How about a 'transitions' theme? Kafka's Metamorphosis comes to mind, but I think we've done that one.
If I have the time, I think I will join in, as this is something I've never read and have been curious about (I neither nominated nor voted this month - though as moderator I did suggest the theme). Discuss away.
What play do you want to read in August? The poll will automatically close in 5 days.
I know that some of us (well, me anyway) may not yet be done with the July book, but we can now start thinking about what we will read in August. We have some very faithful book club participants, and I wouldn't want to let them down. :) If you haven't caught up and would like to, have no worries ....
discuss! :) so many books on my mental tbr list . . . I should get to this before the month is out, but it might be a while
Winner of our contested books nominations, it took us a little while to get there, but we made it:)
What would you like to read this July? The poll is open for 5 days
It's time again to nominate books for the next month's book club! But first, it is always nice to have a strong theme to start off with. Any ideas?
Well, I've started this thread a few days early. But since we all still have to get a hold of the book and such . . . Discuss The Reader, by Bernhard Schlink here. And we again have the option of watching the movie and adding that to our discussion, for those who want to. I haven't seen the...
voting open for a week or so - please choose what you would like to read in June. :)
Hi I noticed that we are halfway through May nearly ? Do we have a book suggestions for May ?
Here is the thread for our discussion of this month's book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, by Philip K. Dick. I was able to download the audio book from my library. It beats the 50 cent request fee for the book in hard format (there are, shockingly, only like 2 copies of the book in the...
I think margaine did this thread already, but since we are a bit back in time due to an attack by hackers, I will re-post the poll, so if you have already voted on this, don't be scared, it is not a deja vu :)
What would we like to read for April? Time certainly flies when you're busy reading! Might I suggest a theme - contentious books. Those that have been banned, censored, restricted or in other ways been met by strong reactions. I know somewhere around here we have a list of most often banned...
I know we have managed to start early, but given we had challenges with January's book club, and February is a short month, we can begin reading The Hound of the Baskervilles when we are ready to. I have only read one of Holmes' adventures (and that several years ago), so I am looking forward to...
Please, vote for our March 2010 book club read :)
After some interest expressed in a thread to read Philip K Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, I thought I would suggest the theme of adaptations. Books that have been adapted for the stage, screen, or any other form you might think of.
Last year we tried a year-long book club. I don't think anyone finished the book (or did someone?), but I still enjoyed the idea of a club where we could read a longer book together. Would anyone be up for a club for 2010? Maybe something a little shorter than War and Peace but longer than the...
Our current book discussion is about The Picture of Dorain Gray by Oscar Wilde. Below is a brief synopsis of the story. Oscar Wilde's story of a fashionable young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty is one of his most popular works. Written in Wilde's characteristically dazzling...
After a bit of confusion and delay due to an inaccessible book and a revote, we will be reading The Land of Green Plums by Herta Müller.
