for me this year easter means everything is closed on Monday as well as Sunday, so I have to save all my last-minute-before-leaving errands for Tuesday.
and my Italian roommate was freaking out because here in France Easter is much less of a big deal than it is in Italy (unsurprisingly). In Italy adult friends exchange presents with each other and easter greetings (not just parents giving kids candy). And such. France seems to celebrate easter by eating with family and closing everything, but that's about it. Kind-of a depressing holiday for a foreigner!

How is it celebrated in the US? Other than church services for the observant, it's pretty much just everyone giving each other chocolate here...and everything shuts for Friday and Sunday:)
Today is ANZAC day though, so war remembrance and Easter stuff has collided this year. The holidays, too.

I'm not really sure! Better ask Jez or Winifred cause I don't remember. ;) Honestly I haven't noticed Easter much at all since I was a kid and awaited candy from the Easter bunny. Probably it's not so different from France, but apparently there is a big difference between the way people in France and people in Italy celebrate Easter.

When I was a child, we were out of school for Good Friday and Easter Monday. Easter meant Easter baskets, lots of candy, new dress-up clothes for church, dinner with family. Now, schools don't observe any Easter holiday unless spring vacation happens to coincide. Otherwise, pretty much the same - but my clothes are coming from goodwill until I lose weight....and Gizmo has his own uniform.
This year, I attended a sunrise service because our little church looks east across the marsh, and watching the sun rise in good company is wonderful. Two of the neighbor's peacocks wandered by at the end of the service...
I always wonder why American Christians don't make more of Easter - Mom said it was huge in Russia. After all, everyone has a birthday (Xmas), but resurrection is something else again.
