When I saw mention of this new film adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre in the newspaper I think it was, when I saw the actress playing Jane Eyre's role, I thought at first it was a film about Emily Dickinson, she looked like her a bit. Haha! But it's not.
I was wondering if anyone has seen this film, plan on seeing it, or anything else about it. I really liked the A&E version of Jane Eyre with Samantha Morton as Jane Eyre. This one has Mia Wasikowska as her:

See the Dickinson resemblance? I do somewhat. Anyways, the A&E one left such an impression on me, it's hard for me to picture someone else in that role! I was surprised not to see any mention of this movie here on the forum, maybe it is mentioned I just didn't see it, so I wanted to start a thread on it. Your thoughts?

I haven't seen it yet. I want to, but I don't know how well they'll adapt it. It's really hard to tell.

Thank you for replying.
The silence to my topic was so loud that it was indeed deafening.
I was just watching some clips on youtube. I think who they have playing the role of Mr. Rochester is perhaps a bit too young looking, he's supposed to be like twice her age, I think. But after looking at it some more, I think that I would like to see this film, some day, definately. And I do like both the A&E and this 2011 version so far, unlike other film adaptations I've seen of books, where I only like one, and am very dissmissive of others. This is simply not going to be the case with this, I think. Both have their merits to me.
It still would be difficult to top the proposal scene in the 1997 A&E one though:

I think this new Jane Eyre is to focus more on the darker parts of the book, from the Wiki:
The filmmakers decided to play up the Gothic elements of the classic novel. Fukunaga stated, "I’ve spent a lot of time rereading the book and trying to feel out what Charlotte Brontė was feeling when she was writing it. That sort of spookiness that plagues the entire story... there’s been something like 24 adaptations, and it’s very rare that you see those sorts of darker sides. They treat it like it’s just a period romance, and I think it’s much more than that."

I'm not sure if I've seen any of the adaptations. But I'd be up for a "darker" version. The book has so many interesting sides. But I'm most interested in the madwoman-in-the-attic aspect. I would be curious to see what the film does with that.

Why, hello, margaine! Nice to speak with you again! :good:
Also, the fire scene, it might be done better than the 1997 one, since they might add special effects or whatnot that just weren't possible at that time, which was well over a decade ago, wow!
If I come across a clip sometime with the madwife in it, I will be sure to post it at once here for you to see.
