Hey all!
Since most authors write from what they know, witness and experience, I thought it would be cool to incorporate our experiences into a story. How it works is that we each post a sentence or two to keep the story going. The idea is to use something that you have seen or experienced in the last 24 hours. Feel free to make up a new character in the story or add to the action of the ones already introduced. Let's see what we can create... :)
I had to cross a toll booth on my way home after my last appointment today, so...
I will start it off.
Paula wearily handed a bill to the toll booth attendant, heading home after her last appointment of the day.

She was a bit tired, and knew she would have to grouse her daughter at home for disobeying her. She was sure her daughter broke a rule at some point during the evening.

Unfortunately, supper was a hurried affair because she'd forgotten that meeting had been rescheduled to tonight. Rule enforcement was Dad's turn tonight.

It was now 12:30 am and she just finished up the dishes. She wondered how effective she'd be at tomorrow's morning staff meeting with only 5 hours of sleep. But all she could think of was having to call a family meeting in the evening. She knows that Mike would not enforce any of the house rules. The kids also know that Dad's an old softy, she thought and giggled outloud.

As she suspected, the staff meeting was a nightmare. With very little sleep, she had even less to contribute. She walked to her car feeling drained from the days demands and found that her battery was dead. "Damn it" She exclaimed as she helplessly stared at the lifeless dashboard. "Can the day get any worst?"

Fortunately, the work day went very well. Intense competition from outside is making our little team circle their wagons and quelling pettiness. Onward!

Finally at home she slumped onto her sofa still surrounded by the night before's party mess. If only she'd had the will to get up a little earlier to sort it all out she wouln't be feeling so downbeaten by it now.

Yeah right, getting up a little earlier now that's a laugh. She couldn't even get herself to sleep at night. She hates when Mike goes out of town for so long. "What am I going to make for dinner?" She wondered wearily.

She found herself thinking back to the last meal they shared. Mmmmhh.. now did she have the ingredients? Marching over to the cupboards she opened the door just as they phone rang.

It was her sister Yolanda. Did she call mother yet? She wanted to know. Paula had but really did not enjoy the conversation. Her mother again nagged about Mike "making all those business trips." She just didn't understand that her husband was an important businessman. "Times have changed Mom" she explained. Kids were use to the responsibilities that took a parent away from the house. Still, there was a part of her that agreed with her mother. Having both parents available was certainly something that society should go back to.

But then came up the matter of meddling business owners. Of the three that owned Bicksmont Fountains, one was a meddler!

I tried to push these people out of my mind. It was Memorial Day weekend and I would be damned if I would allow Bicksmont Fountains to ruin my long weekend. I will have to deal with them tomorrow.

while thinking of this, Paula went to her bedroom, but in the last stair she stumbled and sprang her ankle, with great pain she called on her kids to bring a bandage, while trying to get to a chair close to her.

Driving, driving, driving, my son and me all over the city. I thought of poor Paula, wishing her ankle well, as I sat in traffic trying to keep the chores straight in my harried brain. Three days to go! Thank goodness for books on tape. We just finished a novel about a family exiled to Siberia during Stalin's time. Suddenly Bush doesn't look so bad.....and all my problems seem so minor.
