Uh-oh.
I suspected we might end up here:) I'm unwilling to go to a tie-break simply because we only have three voters and three nominations. I'd like to have more readers signing on for the book club, or else picking a book all three will be happy to read, than hold a book club only one person will take part in!

I'd rather not read Turgenev at the moment, so if it comes to the three of us to "pick and choose" I'd like one of the top two suggestions, and I wouldn't mind either one. :) I do think it's strange that the people that nominates the books doesn't all vote for one either. I think it's a bit odd.

I think finding a book that will be equally enjoyed by a small yet diverse set of readers is always a challenge:) This time around, especially challenging. Personally I'm inclined to postpone the book club in general until we have enough interest/participation to sustain it.

Ha ha! I plead guilty to voting away from my nomination! I would've voted for The Kite Runner, but I've already read it, and mostly, I was adding it because nominations were scarce and it was being talked about elsewhere on the forum (and, it's a great read!!). Neilgee nominated Turgenev after I nominated mine, I haven't read it, and I even have a copy! So, I couldn't resist!!
I'm happy with any of them, I can read Fathers and Sons on my own, or some other month, to be sure!
So, then there were two...

And the second book is out now. So the thirst for more can be quenched for a bit.

We have 5 commenters on this thread and only 3 votes. Would somebody please break the tie?

Isn't the poll closed?

It is - I'd be more in favour of starting the process over again than trying to squeeze a winner out of this round. A lack of a clear winner now would signal low enthusiasm for the resultant winner.

Haha so it was you who kept my nomination in the tie. I'm sorry everybody but I've been offline for about a week so I missed the vote but I would've voted away from my own nomination like Winifred just because I couldn't see F&S catching on as a book of the month, because it's quite heavy reading and I only really put it in there as a throwaway because another nomination was needed to begin the vote...However, if I'd seen Winifred's vote I would have changed my mind because at least there would two of us discussing the book (which is one more than last time), and it is worth reading (as are all the great Russian classics of the 19th century in my opinion). Sorry I am too late to influence the vote,
It's not an easy read but in my experience it's one of those books that stay with you after you've read it. It makes an Impression, and isn't that what we read for, at the end of the day: in the hope that the book will give us something we can keep?

So, do we vote again on these, or open the ballot back up to new submissions? Autumn, Halloween, politics, and more are possibilities. I'm not crazy about vampire books, but it is Halloween season, if we just want to bite down and be done with it..
I must say, though, that looking at Amazon's first page of The Strain, that's hardly a tale I'd tell a child I was trying to encourage to eat....(everyone your hero loves is dead - finish your soup...).

I think it would be best to start the nomination/discussion process over again - in the beginning thread (http://www.literaturejunction.com/showthread.php?39956-Nominations-for-the-Oct-Nov-Book-Club).
