I bought the manics Holy Bible after hearing just three songs from it (Revol, Faster & Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforonedayit'sworldwouldf allapart). Within 3 days of it arriving it has become my favourite album, the lyrics are caustic, making comments on humanity, becoming nilihistic and misanthropic, while the music is 'anti-rock', using rock instruments but not in any way that could possibly be commercially viable, nothing like stadium rock or such at all. It is also packed with quote soundbites, "I wanted to rub the human face in its own vomit, and then force it to look in the mirror" for instance. Each lyric appears a commentary on different elements of society, lyrics often next to each other than don't make sence unless you swallow them as one, such as the lyrics from Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforonedayit'sworldwouldf allapart 'vital stats, how white was his skin; unimportant, just another inner-city drive by thing' next to 'Morning - fine - serve your first coffee of the day', but when put together as a view on american rascism (and how it hides it) makes perfect sense. Other songs cover topics from anerexia (4st11lb), prostituion (yes), the holocaust (the intence humming of evil), the value of human life (of walking abortion) and political correctness (pcp).

I do not endorse the follow site and I do not recommend you use it to listen to these songs illegally at all: http://cdzinc.com/K/32/rock/M_R/manicstreetpreachers.html
