Here's my version of a favorite Pennsylvania Dutch salad dressing:
Stephen's Hot Bacon Dressing
8 slices bacon
2 eggs, well beaten
1/2 cup vinegar (cider or white)
1/2 cup water
3 tsp cornstarch
3/4 cup granulated sugar
Fry bacon until crispy. Remove bacon from fat and set aside. Mix together remaining ingredients. Pour into hot bacon fat. Stir constantly over mediun heat until thickened. Remove from heat and add crumbled bacon.
This dressing is excellent poured hot over raw baby spinach. It's especially good poured over cold, peeled and cubed potatos and chilled. For added creaminess, mix a tablespoon of mayonnaise in with the potatos. My teenagers love macaroni salad made in the same way.
I think we had a version of this salad dressing when I worked at Applebees. I always wanted to learn how to make it. I wonder if they still have it at Applebees...I haven't been in a long time. I always use the Good Seasons packets to make my salad dressing, but I'm going to try this out, oceanflower. Thanks!
I was on the Olive Garden (http://www.olivegarden.com) website the other day looking for I don't know what, but I came across a FAQ of sorts, and came across a question asking if they sold their salad dressing. The FAQ said that they did sell their dressing in-store, for somewhere between 4 and 5 dollars...I wonder how much that much buys you though. Gotta love that Olive Garden sald dressing! Mmmm!

My mother used to make salad dressing with oil, dijon mustard, and honey. She switched around the measures of each depending on the specific taste she was going for.

I discovered this little gem of a recipe the other day and decided I shall be generous and share.
Tandoori Marinade
for 4-6
½ cup plain yoghurt
juice of two lemons
2 tblsp fresh coriander leaves, chopped (optional)
1 tblsp chopped fresh mint (optional)
1 tsp grated ginger
1 tsp crushed garlic
1 tsp chilli powder*
1 tsp ground turmeric
1 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp garam masala
Mix all ingredients. The recipe is suggested for marinating meat, but I used it simply as a sauce, adding in the last few minutes of cooking the vegetables and being careful not to boil it, but gently simmer. It was indeed delicious. The suggested marinating time is, however, at least half an hour.
*I used half this and found it sufficient. Adjust to your own tastes.
So, what other tasty sauce/marinade recipes have we out there?

MMMM! Looks like a very tasty marinade. I think I'll try it on chicken (I'll leave out the mint, though...I don't care for it).
