What does every body think of maths, is it good, or is it bad? I love it and think it's great but from what I've heard other people have different oppinions.

P.S. I made this in here because it has as much thought put into it as a knats armpit (which isn't much), and so didn't desever to go in the cafe.

I teach maths and I really like it. Unfortunately, these days I don't get to teach challenging stuff but it is always fun and takes my mind off from daily worries.

I spent several years disliking maths, because I was no good at it, then when I got to year 11, I had the best teacher in the world, and went from being a B student to the top of the grade. I don't study it anymore, but I feel special when I can use differential calculus in everyday life.

I think I'm more geeky than I ever realised.

I enjoy math; but my predilection for it is disproportionate to my ability for it. ;)

I cannot stand maths. I used to like it when it was easy, but functions and cartesian planes just annoy me. Maths is there to torture humanities students! :D
This year I got a teacher that I really don't like for maths. He gets off on tangents (an example of his constant jokes). It's not really anything against him, I just don't understand him. Some of my friends think he is the best maths teacher.
Last year I had a great maths teacher; he was really good at explaining the work. We had him as a substitute a few days ago, and I got all my nasty questions answered! But I think your teacher has a lot to do with whether you like maths or not. I don't and I don't think that I will do any maths subject it next year.

If I were your teacher, I bet you would all like the Maths! :D

math is great! even the higher levels of it that you get at the university.. oh, i do not know what you get at school.. emm, well, any kind of math is great, i think. not that great for me to tie up my life with it, though, but i like mathematical problems.. :)

I enjoy it, but for some reason I not interested in it like I used to be, no idea why...

Why is that? Would you hand out Kit Kats for correct responses? :p Not a bad motivator...

You're probably right. I had awful math teachers throughout junior and senior high school. The best teachers I ever had in any subject were the ones that taught me literature and creative writing.

Furnie, I'm going to upgrade your thread to the Cafe, because it deserves it.:)

Good point. :good: Though funny you should do it, since you're not too keen about maths. :p

Thought I might revive this thread a little bit. I have a Mensa 365 Day Page a Day Calendar, and today's question is as follows:

What is the number that is two-thirds of one-half of one-tenth of one-fifth of 1,500?

I don't know about you, but I thought this question was rather easy...maybe I'm good at math...maybe it's because I have been doing these Mensa puzzles all year and I've seen much more difficult puzzles, maybe I don't know. I'll post the answer later.

If you're interested, maybe whenever there is a Mensa mathematics related puzzle, I'll post it here. :)

Personally I'd say Nay...but since my mother was a Math teacher and it helped provide the bread and meat in the table for many years..so I have to say YAY..

YAY YAY YAY

Cheers

10?

Yes, the answer is 10. Good job Star and oceanflower! :)

For what it's worth, today's Mensa is a lot tougher...I think at least. I didn't get it today. It is as follows:

1. Change one letter in the name of a magazine all about you to find a magazine about money.

2. Change one letter in the name of a magazine to find a magazine for flower-loving drunkards..

OK, back on topic. Maybe another math mensa when it comes up...maybe someone has a puzzle they'd like to share. Or...maybe someone just wants to cast their vote in the poll? :)
