I know that some of us (well, me anyway) may not yet be done with the July book, but we can now start thinking about what we will read in August. We have some very faithful book club participants, and I wouldn't want to let them down. :) If you haven't caught up and would like to, have no worries . . .

I had an idea for a theme for August - if anyone has a different/better idea, I'm all for it. But I thought we might nominate works of drama for our August read. I thought it might provide some interesting variety. Plus, works of drama, while full of discussion-worthy issues, are often rather fast reads.

Any nominations? Or ideas for a different theme, or modifications of this one (I know the category is rather large) . . .

Are we talking plays or any novel that could be construed as dramatic (which most novels would probably count as at some level or another)?

If it's plays - which I think is a great idea for August - then I'll nominate Guildenstern and Rozencrantz are Dead by Tom Stoppard. It's one of my favourites and very funny.

I want to ask :
the novels must be in English ?

There are a lot of wonderful dramas in French for example .. Like the story of Les Misérables‏ by Víctor Hugo .. It's really a wonderful novel and It's the most beautiful novel I've ever read !

For English Novels , I'm reading "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens , I'll nominate it :)

I'm sorry, I meant plays (Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams, etc, etc). I guess that wasn't clear.

So Neil's nomination works. For Sun and Phantom, please submit plays for nominations if you have any (and hang on to your other nominations for later months if you like).

Sun, you are welcome to nominate books whose original language is not English. But please nominate a work that has been translated into English so that everyone can participate in reading it if they want. As we are going with theater, Hugo's Les Mis won't work for this month (but it would work otherwise), but you can certainly nominate something else instead.

I'm certainly got enough to think about, Marge. Merchant of Venice is one of my favourite plays. I know I said that about Guildenstern and Rozencrantz are dead but if I had to choose between the two of them Merchant would have the edge. Thanx sun lol
