To be fair to our friends in Australia....Happy Autumn! Not my personl favorite as far as seasons go, but it has many redeeming qualities. ;) :)

Hurrah, a thread for us southern hemispherers!

I don't mind Autumn so much - it's just not so much fun being caught in the rain. My umbrella broke, I was running late, my hair is one great ball of frizz....oh well, just be grateful for when I'm cosy and warm inside.

I must give credit where credit's due: After my "Happy Spring" thread, Sean reminded me of you southerners who were in the throes of early autumn. ;)

Good idea- happy autumn! :)

So what are autumn and winter in Australia like? It would appear that rain is involved.

Happy autumn then. I like walking through the leaves fallen from the trees and watching the rain from inside where it's warm. :D

Not to mention all those amazing colours.

Well, the seasons tend be different depending on where in Australia you live - up north, in the Northern Territory and Queensland, I don't think there really are seasons in the usual sense - the top end is mostly sub-tropical, and so really just have wet and dry seasons. In the alps (yes, we have alps) it's obviously snowy. But where I live, the south east (ACT), we get the whole range of seasons, in extremes. I'll complain about 38 degree days in summer, and then how cold it is in winter.

Autumn is really pretty, if you get a good one, with reasonably warm days and crisp, cool nights. We're just having an unexpected cold snap right now, with rain, and then wind. I don't remember it usually being this wet, but we have had a really long drought, so that could explain why it seems unexpected. Our winters have been quite dry, and snow is a rarity (only snowed twice here that I can remember), but it's still remarkably cold. Keen gardeners joke about Canberran weather; what the searing heat doesn't kill, the frosts will.

Well, that's the run down on the weather, for anyone who cares! Thanks for the pretty picture, Skye. The leaves haven't turned yet, but I'm waiting. And watching.

We go back to school towards the end of summer (our school year starts soon after the year does, in late January/early February), so Autumn doesn't mean the death of freedom! Where I live, there are lots of (non-native) deciduous trees which look really pretty, and make lots of big piles of leaves to run through! Oh, how I love that!
