I have been studying on the aspects of Christianity through the eyes of different movements in Americans past, mainly the literary movements, puritism, romantics, transcendentalists and so forth. However, I am unable to find but a small amount of information about the anti-transcendentalists/dark romantics, such as Poe and Hawthorn. I was wondering if there is anyone who might know about these things or that may be able to direct me to a source that does know about these things.

With Poe, you might want to focus on his belief in death as beautiful, on his obsession with the macabre and the grotesque, and his general depression and fear. I have no doubt his outlook on Christianity was bleak, as the rest of his world was.
