It's time again to nominate books for the next month's book club! But first, it is always nice to have a strong theme to start off with. Any ideas?

Ooh, nice topic, neilgee. But, it's summer, how about a happy book, or a light book about families? Something along the lines of Cheaper by the Dozen, or Cold Comfort Farm (not necessarily nominations, just examples). :)

sure, let's go with that . . . books about families that are somewhat on the lighter/happier side. sorry I can't think of a catchier way to phrase the theme, but that's less important than its content.
(still not a nomination, but Cheaper By the Dozen has always been a favorite book of mine, Winifred!)
any nominations?

How about The darling buds of May by H.E. Bates.
I've never read it but they did televise it as a series many years ago and it seems to fit the criteria.

I'm assuming most people have already read Cheaper by the Dozen (which is NOTHING like the movie with Steve Martin, btw). I'll go ahead and nominate Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons, just to add to the voting choices. Here's the review from my book blog: http://www.literaturejunction.com/showthread.php?12396-Winifred-s-reads/page2
If you have not read Cheaper by the Dozen, I heartily recommend it, and I'm glad margaine thinks it's great, too.

Nominate - The Family Fortune- Laurie Horowitz ( that touches base on a familiar Jane Austen Story in Modern Time)

Yes guys, I could go with a happy families book right now. I liked the older version of the film Cheaper by the Dozen... It was called Yours, Mine and Ours.
I would be happy to go with Cheaper by the Dozen or even Neil's nomination of Darling Buds of May, I have never read it either.

Maryd, why don't you nominate Cheaper by the Dozen? It hasn't been formally nominated! It's more fun if there are several choices.
And, I agree, the older movie was much better, and truer to the book.

I've been a bit remiss, but we should close our nominations up soon so that we can vote and pick a book before it's too far into July. Maryd, or anyone else, want to nominate? I'll set up the poll in a day or so.

I'm going to nominate Cheaper By the Dozen just in case Maryd wanted to (and I can always re-read that book, it makes me smile every time). But I want to set up the poll so we can vote and decide.
