I have Zwan's album Mary Star of the Sea, and I must say I'm disappointed. There wasn't one song that really stood out...they were unimaginative and so "pop.". I tried not to compare Zwan with the Pumkins and to judge the album on its own merits...but I still came away unimpressed. I heard a while back that Billy Corgan was writing a book of poetry...?
What's your take on Zwan? (they've already disbanded, haven't they?)

well at first i thought zwan is the "happy" version of pumpkins and personally, i put lots of hope in the band to become as big as the pumpkins.I mean billy is there and so doed Jimmy. but the songs are the type of songs which you got bored with after listening them once or twice..and Billy's musical capability is higher than that (don't know what happened to him)...he seems more cheerfull though..

Have you heard the version by The Sundays? Spine-chillingly beautiful (though my personal favourite version of "Wild Horses" is the original by the Flying Burrito Brothers).
Some of mine, though I could list about a million:
"Pale Blue Eyes", Velvet Underground
"Lost My Driving Wheel", Cowboy Junkies (especially the live version where you can literally hear Margo choke back tears)
"I'm Not There (1956)", Bob Dylan
"Chemo Limo", Regina Spektor
"Mellow My Mind", Neil Young
"Tunic", Sonic Youth
"It Makes No Difference", The Band
"I Heard You Looking", Yo La Tengo
"Bachelorette", Björk
"Bloody Motherf***ing Asshole", Martha Wainwright
"Rollercoaster", Spacemen 3 (the 17-minute version, of course)
"Ruby's Arms", Tom Waits
"Sour Times", Portishead
"Land", Patti Smith
etc etc etc.

A beautiful song, indeed. I loved it and will consider it a sound of beauty, especially when it was played in the movie "Cruel intentions"

Is it Glossoli? (i can't download the video). That was the song that got me into Sigur Ros. Along with staralfur it remains my favourite. What an amazing band they are. I aim to see them live as soon as possible. Although i'm sure that will be a fair distance away as they've just done a UK tour which i was regretfully unable to attend.

Oh goodness. This will be long in the making.
One of the main ones is Elliott Smith's "Waltz #2 (XO)", because every time I hear the lyric, "Never gonna know you now, but I'm gonna love you anyhow", I think of Elliott and his death, and how fitting it is.
Next up is a Bright Eyes song, but I need to google the title. "If Winter Ends". It's some really emotional crap (for lack of a better word and/or lack of courage to use anything stronger). The part at the end where he says "I'm gonna be all right" over and over always made me burst out crying when I was at a bad time in my life.
"Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica makes my list as well. I heard it late night on the radio, lying in bed in the dark, and when it said what the song was, I leaped out of bed and wrote it down.
Just about anything by Therion, but especially "Via Nocturna" on their album Deggial. I'm always in awe after listening to that piece. (Don't ever call it a song! It's a complicated, orchestrated piece! And recommended to everybody. :p)
There are a lot more I'll have to add later as they occur to me.

Wild Horses
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)
Childhood living is easy to do
The things you wanted I bought them for you
Graceless lady you know who I am
You know I can't let you slide through my hands
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
I watched you suffer a dull aching pain
Now you decided to show me the same
No sweeping exits or offstage lines
Could make me feel bitter or treat you unkind
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, couldn't drag me away
I know I dreamed you a sin and a lie
I have my freedom but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried
Let's do some living after we die
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them some day
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them some day

I know what you mean about Bright Eyes...if you're in the same space, it really gets you (for me, these have included Lover I Don't Have to Love, Land Locked Blues and First Day of My Life), but change the mood and you just think, "Wow, that's self-indulgent". Yet I keep coming back...this one, I was introduced to by a friend who has reserved it as her "wedding song", but I can still like it.
First Day of My Life, Bright Eyes
This is the first day of my life
Swear I was born right in the doorway
I went out in the rain
Suddenly everything changed
They're spreadin' blankets on the beach
Yours is the first face that I saw
Think I was blind before I met you
I don't know where I am
I don't know where I've been
But I know where I want to go
So I thought I'd let you know
That these things take forever
I especially am slow
But I realized that I need you
And I wondered if I could come home
Remember the time you drove all night
Just to meet me in the morning
And I thought it was strange
You said everything changed
You felt as if you'd just woke up
And you said,
This is the first day of my life,
Glad I didn't die before I met you
But now I don't care I could go anywhere with you
And I'd probably be happy.
So if you wanna be with me
With these things there's no telling
We just have to wait and see
But I'd rather be working for a paycheck
Than waiting to win the lottery
Besides maybe this time it's different
I mean I really think you like me...

Wild Horses
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)
The Sundays do a version of that song that while being a very faithful rendition has a mood all it's own because it's sung by a woman...but not an angry chick. ;) I really like it, the original is better of course as it most often is but it's worth a listen. I think Bush did a cover of that song as well but it's not as good as The Sundays.
As far as beautiful songs:
Srange and Beautiful ~ Aqualung
and speaking of covers...Sweet Jane by the Cowboy Junkies, easily the greatest cover ever!
Verdi Cries ~ 10,000 Maniacs
Trouble ~ Cat Stevens, it's a devastating song but beautiful nonetheless.
Amsterdam ~ Coldplay
Crash Into Me ~ Dave Matthews Band...it's not only beautiful but it's also incredibly sensual.
In The Waiting Line ~ Zero 7...it's her voice that makes it beautiful, Sophie Barker could sing anything and make it beautiful.
How Deep It Goes ~ Heart...when they were good.
Almost anything by Iron & Wine but the first song that comes to mind is Weary Memory
Again, almost anything but Cowboy Junkies, I already mentioned Sweet Jane and there are countless others I could add to that...
There's a couple by Pink Floyd I would add as well, The Show Must Go On which is one of Dave's finest moments, vocally and Any Colour You Like which is one of his finest guitar moments and of course, Wish You Were Here
Pink Bullets ~ The Shins
Running To Stand Still ~ U2...and All I Want Is You by them as well which I think is one of the greatest love songs ever written.
...and that's just my short, quick list. ;)

Yes, it's a very beautiful song. It was originally a Christian hymn written by Eleanor Farjeon (1881–1965) It can still be found in the hymnals of many denominations. :)
