Well, I had to clean/vacuum the pool today, and I always listen to my MP3 player while doing so. :D I listened to a lot of different music today, including:

Eve - Blow Your Mind
Sponge - Plowed
Collective Soul - Shine
Pearl Jam - Given To Fly

etc.

I'll be cleaning the pool some more tomorrow. Stay tuned for updates if I decide to post them.

I like stumbling on my old posts and editing them so the smilies show up. In this case, I found the  one. :D

Now, the album Fables of the Reconstruction by R.E.M. (song playing right now is "Feeling Gravity's Pull" - it's lovely.)

I've been going iPod crazy since I received it as a gift! Here's what I've listened to lately:

Jamie Cullum-All at Sea
The Killers-Somebody told me
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs-Maps
Queen-Bohemian Rhapsody & Under Pressure
Lostprophets-Wake up & Last train home.

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

Great song. Remember Wayne's World? Haha. Anyway, I have Bohemian Rhapsody on a CD in my car, and when I was making a road trip with a bunch of friends, who all knew the words to the song, they really made quite a performance right in the car. I would recommend anyone having this song available in their car just to break the ice. It really seems to bring people together. :D Very sad song though... :(

Now: the album Vitalogy by Pearl Jam.

oceanflower, do you have Pearl Jam's entire collection? Just curious. It's something I'd like to do after getting all of Pink Floyd's CDs, but I'm a bit daunted by Pearl Jam's tendency to release multiple shows on CD. You know what I'm talking about I'm sure. They release 20 different shows on CD from their tour. It's crazy.

Anyway, today I cleaned the pool some more! I'm getting tired of all the work, and since nobody will be swimming in it anytime soon (I'm going away for the weekend), I'm a little disgruntled. Pool party at my house. BYOB. Heh. While cleaning the pool, I listened to the folowing:

Soundgarden: Blow Up The Outside World
Nirvana: In Bloom - anyone seen the different videos for this song?
Bob Dylan: Final Theme
Creedence Clearwater Revival: Have You Ever Seen The Rain?

Also, since my little brother is watching Office Space, I just listened to the Ghetto Boys - Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangster.

I know there are a lot of R.E.M. fans that hang around here. I haven't really listened to any of their other stuff aside from what comes on the radio. I'll have to ask around and see if friends own any of their CDs. Today, I actually spent a lot of time listening to Nirvana. I have their complete collection of songs on one CD that I play in my CD MP3 player.

I have all of the cds realeased as "non-bootleg" cds. You know, Pearl Jam released authorized bootlegs for sale of their concerts from a variety of the cities in which they played. While I'm sure these were good, I really don't feel I need them. My most recent Pearl Jam purchases are Lost Dogs, a superb collection of b-sides that could very well have been wonderful a-sides; and [/i]Live at Benaroya Hall, a benefit concert with Eddie Vedder singing with often minimal imstrumental accompaniment. I adore this one!

I love Storm in Heaven. It has such an etheral sound. I also love A Nothern Soul; No Come Down; Urban Hymns. I think that each album is so differnet fron the other in sound and theme that they resist comparison.

As I said, I haven't listened to A Storm in Heaven in a while, but I think I might appreciate it more now than when I got it (a few years ago). The only song I really remember is Butterfly.

I've don't have No Come Down; I think A Northern Soul and Urban Hymns both contain some wonderful songs, especially History, Sonnet, and Velvet Morning. There are quite a few songs I like less, but I think they're both good albums.

How did you start listening to the Verve? I didn't think they were widely known in the US[/i]

You're right. Until Bitterseet Symphony became a hit over here, I'd never heard of the Verve. But, as is the way in the U.S., you couldn't turn on VH1 or MTV without seeing the Bittersweet Symphony video. I really liked the video, actually, but I was bowled over by that beautiful song. I ran out and bought the album....then I had to have all the rest. I remain broken-hearted to this day that The Verve broke up. In my humble opinion Richard Ashcroft's two solo albums were less than stellar.

I must confess I asked for Urban Hymns as a Christmas present solely on reputation having never heard a hting on it- I didn't really listen to any musci till I got a CD player when I was about 11-12 (didn't have TV either till similar time)- it seems to have been a good decision though!

I thought Alone with everybody was reasonable, but very 'slick' and pop...I wasn't sufficiently enthused to get the second solo album (or even know what it was called!)

Went to my girlfriend's grandmother's 90th birthday party. Fun times for all. The beer was flowing and there were plenty of requests for karaoke. Heh heh. Let's see...we listened to Sir Mix-A-Lot's Baby Got Back, The Beach Boys' Surfin' USA, Cher's I Got You Babe, and of course, Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. I didn't have my camera, but I did have my MP3 player for this event...so I recorded some performances. I'll e-maill them to the performers when I get the chance. Heh.

For those of you that are Zeppeling fans, and living in the United States (I don't think they tour internationall), there is a cover band, ZOSO (http://www.zosoontour.com/tourdates_index.htm), that is absolutely incredible. Finished listening to Nirvana's complete discography early in the week. I enjoyed every minute of it, though I learned that Kurt Cobain hated playing "Smells Like Teen Spirit" because of it's popularity.

Has anyone read Love & Death, a recent book about the murder theory behind Cobain's death?

I love Nirvana. I have all of their albums. I can only listen to them in small doses, though. Kurt Cobain's lyrics are are so good, but so...hmmm...how can I describe them? I guess "without hope" comes to mind. By that I mean is that his lyrics, even the ones that are witty, all have a negative feeling to them. There never seems to be a "light at the end of the tunnel" in his music. Kurt was a brilliant and troubled guy, and both of these aspects are apparent in his music.

I enjoyed The Killers the first couple of times they were on the radio, but I kept hearing them over and over again, so I'm trying to stop listening to them for a bit. The radio overloaded me with their music...and I don't like it when it gets to the point where a song you enjoyed turns into a song you hate. I highly recommend it. The songs all have a poignancy about them that is heightened by the sweet voice of the lead singer, as well as the wonderful piano accompaniments. You won't find any heavy guitar sound on this album, but if you like the first song "Somewhere Only We Know," I think you'll like the whole album. (My 13-yr.-old son loves that song, too. He has diverse tastes. )

Goes around comes around

Jack Johnson, Pete Murray, amongst others. I have many soulful men; they follow me around and never get jealous of each other. Right now its the Foo Fighters:

"I can be your liar
I can be your bearer of bad news...
But is this just desire or the truth?
So shame on me for the ruse
Shame on me for the blues...
I won't go getting tired of you...
I'm not getting tired of you...
Cursed by love so dire..."

From "Tired of You". The line "Is this just desire or the truth?" seems to fit right now...seems to be haunting me.

I've done that before. But I always find that afterwards, I find that I either hate the song or I think it's alright...or only the occasional listen is ok. What is it about the song that makes you want to listen to it over and over? The lyrics? A guitar solo...?

Well, since I don't know a lot about music (theory and that), I'll say melody and hope you know what I mean. I couldn't understand the lyrics, but I looked it up on the web and it's quite funny actually, different than I expected it to be.

I do that all the time, just listen to one thing over and over again, then get sick of it, move on to the next. I won't listen to it for ages usually. Whenever I get a new cd, I have to listen to it for at least a week, repeatedly. So I know a lot of lyrics.

You asked for it! But I must warn, all these lyrics aren't family friendly. If you like your monkeys clean and well behaved, do not read on!

Me and My Monkey, Robbie Williams

There was me and my monkey
And with his dungarees and roller blades smoking filter tips
Reclining in the passenger seat of my super-charged jet black Chevrolet
He had the soft-top down (he liked the wind in his face)
He said 'Son, you ever been to Vegas?' I said 'no'
He said 'that's where we're gonna go - you need a change of pace'
And we hit the strip with all the wedding chapels and the neon signs
He said 'I left my wallet in El Segondo' and proceeded to take two grand of mine
We made tracks to The Mandalay Bay Hotel
Asked the bell boy if he'd take me and my monkey as well?
He looked in the passenger seat of my car and with a smile he said
'If your monkey's got that kind of money sir, then we've got a monkey bed!'

Me and my monkey
With a dream and a gun
I'm hoping my monkey don't point that gun at anyone
Me and my monkey
Like Butch and the Sundance Kid
Trying to understand why he did what he did
Why he did what he did

We got the elevator, I hit the 33rd floor
We had a room up top with the panoramic views like nothing you'd ever seen
before
He went to sleep in the bidet and when he awoke
He ran his little monkey fingers through yellow pages
Called up some escort services and ordered some okey doke
Forty minutes later there came a knock at the door
In walked this big bad ass baboon into my bedroom with three monkey whores
'Hi! My name is Sunshine - these are my girls
Lace my palm with silver baby and oh yeah, they'll rock your world'
So I watched pay-per-view and polished my shoes and my gun
Was diggin' old Kurt Cobain sing about lithium
There came a knock at the door and in walked Sunshine
'What's up? You'd better get your ass in here boy, your monkey's having too
much of a good time!'

Me and my monkey
Drove in search of the sun
Me and my monkey
Don't point that gun at anyone
Me and my monkey
Like Billy The Kid
Trying to understand why he did what he did
Why he did what he did

Got tickets to see Sheena Easton, the monkey was high
Said it was a burning ambition to see her before he died
We left before encores, he couldn't sit still
Sheena was a blast baby but my monkey was ill
We went to play black-jack, kept hitting twenty three
Couldn't help but notice this Mexican just staring at me
Or was it my monkey? I couldn't be sure
It's not like you'd never seen a monkey in rollerblades and dungarees before
Now don't test my patience 'cause we're not about to run
That's a bad ass monkey boy and he's packing a gun
'My name is Rodriguez', he says with death in his eye
'I've been chasing you for a long time amigos, and now your monkey's gonna die!'

Me and my monkey
Drove in search of the sun
Me and my monkey
We don’t wanna kill no Mexican
But we got ten itchy fingers
One thing to declare
When the monkey is high
You do not stare
You do not stare
You do not stare

Looks like we got ourselves a Mexican stand off here boy
And I ain’t about to run
Put your gun down boy

I need that Pure Relaxion cd right now....but I digress. I love Nirvana, but especaiily the Unplugged cd. I taped a re-run of Nirvana's appearance on Unplugged, taped shortly before Kurt Cobain killed himself. It's a hearbreakingly beautiful performance, and I cry every time I watch it.

Some of you may know I went to a gig last Sunday, and on Thursday I finally got my hands on the cd. Two Shoes by the Cat Empire. Just as strong as their debut album, so I love it, but some of the songs'll take a while to get into.

Really?! Wow...I would love to have a copy of that Nirvana performace! I have some of the individual songs...and definitely the music from that performance, but not the whole thing. Oh well...I'm sure they probably have something like that released on DVD, don't they?

I still haven't found that Pure Relaxation CD at work...I'm certain it's down in the Warehouse...I'll have to get it tomorrow.

Today, I was all set to listen to Pearl Jam's performance in Milan, Italy on 2000.06.22, but my CD didn't work. It must have been because it was rewritable. I'm debating whether to make myself another copy on a plain writable CD. I hear it's considered one of their best performances...and while I could listen to it on my computer, I was hoping to listen to it to and from work for a couple of days.

Today I've listened to a whole lot of Dream Theater, a few Eagles songs, a Talking Heads song or two and some Skid Row.

Unfortunately, the Nirvana Unplugged is not on tape or DVD. I taped it from a re-broadcast on VH1, and I don't have the entire thing because I came upon it accidentally and had to scramble to find an empty tape...but most of it is there. If I can figure out how to copy it, I'll send you a copy...if you don't mind giving me your address. ;) As for the Pearl Jam performance...re-copy it, definitely! Any Pearl Jam concert is well worth it. :)

Hmm...maybe we could meet halfway between Annapolis and Silver Spring...or I'll meet you at one of those museums in D.C. ;) I can't believe they don't have something like that on DVD. I wonder if the execs or whoever is the decision maker on that is thinking about releasing it right now.

Yesterday and today, I am listening to a jam session with Jimi Hendirx and Jim Morrison. It's very good. :) I have also been listening to Nirvana among other things.

I've been meaning to post this info for awhile, finally remembered.
Philly has a fabulous radio station, WXPN 88.5 FM. It is a member supported, public radio station. To quote their website they're a, "showcase for contemporary music that spans the progressive edges of rock, folk, rhythm and blues, and American roots."
Hopefully, you can listen to them at the website. I also posted part of a one day playlist sample. Quite a variety, huh? ;)

WXPN broadcasts in Philadelphia, in the Lehigh Valley, Harrisburg and Baltimore MD:
WXPN 88.5 FM in the greater Phila/South NJ area
104.9 FM in the Lehigh Valley
90.5 FMWorton/Baltimore
88.1 WXPH FM Harrisburg.
WXPN is also available worldwide via streaming audio. http://www.xpn.org

Excellent playlist! I'll have to see if I can get the Baltimore station. Thanks, Joyce. :)

I spent the entire day in my car running errands. Since the radio is LOUSY (I should have known about Joyce's favorite station), I listened to Pearl Jam all day. I must say, a day spent alone in the car with Eddie Vedder is a day well-spent....I adore his voice! *sigh* Really great music, too, of course. :D

I keep listening to A Perfect Circle's remake of John Lennon's "Imagine" - Can't seem to stop playing it. I love movie soundtracks, and Gladiator's has been on my playlist for awhile now. Umm, also The Corrs "In Blue". Cold's "Year Of The Spider" and Ill Niño "Confession".

Hope I didn't gatecrash?

A Perfect Circle's remake of John Lennon's "Imagine" is definitely dark. Have you seen the music video for A Perfect Circle's version? I actually like both versions of the song.

Today, I finished listening to that jam session with Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison. On my way home from work today, I listened to Pearl Jam playing at Pinkpop in the Netherlands. Very good show...as any Pearl Jam show is. I don't know what I'll listen to next. That's a problem for me to solve on Sunday night...

Yep, very much like the surfer dude. His music and his laid back personality. I first heard him on the above mentioned radio staion, saw his concert at small venue. :good: He will be back here at the riverfront in September.

"oceanflower: Excellent playlist! I'll have to see if I can get the Baltimore station. Thanks, Joyce. "

You're welcome, Liz. That is just one day's playlist, and not the entire day. It was so extensive, I had to cut some out. I don't like all the music, all the time. However, it is the only music station I listen to and support. btw...they have a childrens hour at 7:00 pm. It is really good.
I have a friend in California listening to this station on the web. Also, an Aussie friend who is able to stream it in occasionally.

"Star_Anise: Hey, aren't you lucky to be hearing our own Cat Empire? Much better than Kasey Chambers."

Hey, Star, aren't I just one lucky girl. :p Actually, I had not heard them, I was scanning through that playlist and thought where have I heard that name? LOL I went back and played some songs....I think they have a new fan. :good:

Joyce, I spent another day in the car, this time running the kids to a variety of activities...so I tried to tune in 90.5 FM . It came in, but was too fuzzy to be able to enjoy the music. Ah, well, the next time I head towards Pennsylvania, I'll try again. It'll probably start to come in more clearly when I get passed Baltimore City.

Yeah, I fell in love (as I do) with his first album, and am now waiting to get my hands on his new one. It's such a great summer album, so that's probably why I haven't been listening to him much lately - too cold! I missed his tour here in February as the tickets were so damn expensive. *sighs* when I'm a rich girl....

Joyce, I'm glad my less than subtle charms are working on you - and Kasey does have her moments for some, I just find her annoying. The Captain is about the only song of hers I can listen to at all. It might have something to do with the fact she gets so over-played here.

Lately I haven't been listening to as much music, and have decided that I hate almost everything on my harddrive. So last night I downloaded stuff like Fugazi and Shellac in order to get back to my indie/math rock days. I was listening to Coldplay earlier and enjoying it immensely. I think I'll put on some Suede....

Yield, my favorite Pearl Jam album.
The Unforgettable Fire, next to Joshua Tree, it's my favorite U2 album.
The Best of R.E.M - not a bad song in the bunch!

I used to like metal but I like to think I matured, in a way, now I am a steady Pearl Jam fan (as I was all along). Eflo, which is your favourite bootleg?
Whoops...I must have missed your post DARKanima. Sorry to take a few days getting back to you. Um...not sure what my favourite bootleg is...there are so many out there. And so many that I still have to listen to. Today, I was listening to a Pearl Jam bootleg from 2000...the Seattle show from November 6th. GREAT so far...and I haven't even finished the 2nd of 3 CDs yet! A favourite? Do you have a favourite bootleg?

Listened to Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock yesterday. Will be finishing that up on my way to work today. After that, I don't know what I'll be in the mood for.

I just discovered some odd stuff in my room and have been listening to it, including:
Britney Spears (around her oops I did it again stage)
5ive
Aqua
Bardot
Hanson (middle appearance. Saw them on a breakfast show the other day and nearly jumped out of my slippers I was so shocked.)

Oh, how I laughed.

Gotta love that guitar riff from "Like A Stone" off their first album. :D Tom Morello is a man with a crazy guitar.

BTW, I was listening to the radio today, and I heard an acoustic version of Pearl Jam's "Black" played, but I don't think it was Pearl Jam. It sounded like it could have been Aaron Lewis from Staind?? Anyone know what I'm talking about?

No, I haven't heard that one. Was he any good?

It was alright. Not nearly as emotional as Eddie Vedder singing it...especially that acoustic version you and I like so much. It wasn't terrible...it wasn't amazing...but if it were on the radio as often as the newer songs today, I wouldn't enjoy it. It was nice at the time because it was almost like a new twist on things.

I forgot my faceplate today, so I didn't listen to any music. :o

i know, it's my ring tone, it's pretty sweet, but the new album, chris cornell's voice is freaking awesome, he does a harmony part with a bgv and i almost cried...while we're on the subject, anyone like soundgarden?

The guitar riff is your ring tone? I don't know why, but for some reason, I am having a hard time imagining what that would sound like. Where can you download ringtones anyway? I'm not looking for anything fancy...just a regular phone ringing sound... On second thought, I almost always have my phone on vibrate, unless I am walking around my house. It would be nice to have a pleasant ringtone for the times I am in my house and not have to pay $10. for a ringtone.

I just finished listening to The Doors' Celebration of the Lizard.

I got "perfect" by The Smashing Pumpkins as my ringtone. I downloaded it using USB, and I got many songs in my phone cause it got this MP3 player. So I can use any song as my ringtone

Where do you folks get these mysterious ringtones? Do you pay for them? Can you create them with software? Can you download them for free? Sounds like a top-of-the-line cell phone, Flow...especially with mp3 playback.

This week, I've taken a break from listening to bootlegs. I've been trying out my new car stereo...and I've been listening to an mp3 disc I made...so lots of variety. Everything from the Beatles to Nirvana to the Doors and back to Pearl Jam. You never know what song is coming up next...unlike the radio. :)

and the ringtones, yeah, i paid four dollars for mine, i suck with finances, i know, but it's so cool. i think there are websites that can send them to you or something, it also depends on your provider and the model of your phone.

I've been listening to U2's Achtung baby every night before I fall asleep for a month or so already. I've got it on a cassette and it's really nice that it stops by itself after six songs, so I don't have to get up and turn it off if I'm half asleep already.

Right now, I'm listening to Light My Fire by the Doors. It's about to end. Now, fading into Question Everything by 8 Stops 7. :) Gotta love having an mp3 player on days like this. I'm at work with my girlfriend...don't want to distract her by playing my music exceedingly loud.

I just bought the soundtrack for the movie of The Phantom of the Opera, and have been listening to nothing but it since. I do not know how it fares against the original cast recording though, as I have only heard a few songs from that. But I love it; I think Gerard Bulter performs the songs very well, rather than just singing them.
