We have had quite a thread going for a while up in Fantasy/Sci-Fi about manga, and I know the discussion there has often spilled over into anime as well. But I've been watching a whole lot of anime lately, and rather than clutter that thread with more discussion of TV shows, I thought I'd start a new thread here.
Favorite anime series anyone? I'm no anime expert, but unable to think of more "regular" shows to watch, _object and I have been watching lots of anime lately.
A long-time favorite of mine, that I've mentioned before, is Fullmetal Alchemist, but I've recently learned that they sort-of re-did the series as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. So far it's pretty much the same as the first series, but it's still nice to check in with some of my favorite characters.
Also watched Neon Genesis Evangelion - quite compelling, even if it gets kind of bizarre and sometimes verges on incomprehensible.
And now we are also watching .hack//Sign - it takes place almost entirely inside an online fantasy role playing game. The characters often discuss "logging off," checking the message board, or who they are offline. But one boy is stuck inside the game and cannot log off. It sounds silly, but it's really quite intelligent. Anyone who enjoys participating in online communities (like the one we have right here) can probably appreciate it to some extent.
